to Markham community centre website.
This
website was launched in early July 2006, the aim of this Website is to
provide information about the centre for the local people, And those visiting or
hoping to visit.
Markham
is located in the beautiful Sirhowy valley, it has a river running straight
through the valley, its known as The Sirhowy River, it rises in the North of
Tredegar, and flows 20 miles or so South Easterly where it links with the Ebbw
River at Cross Keys.
Markham
is situated in and around lots of villages; these consist of Tredegar, Hollybush,
The Rock, Argoed, Bargoed, Blackwood, and Bedwellty, to mention but a few.
Markham
used to have its own Colliery; this was in production from before
WW1 until the mid 1980s.
The village took its name from the Colliery which was named after Sir Arthur
Markham, a director of the Tredegar Iron & Coal Company.
Markham community centre is situated in the centre of the
village, just behind Markham Primary School; the centre has services for
individuals, groups, and families. The centre also has;
